What You Can Do to Get Young Drivers Cheap Car Insurance
Different studies across Europe have shown that British drivers are the safest drivers in the region. The insurance company AXA conducted a particular study (which included over 800 interviews with drivers hailing from Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain and Great Britain) which showed that a third of all drivers in Europe said that the British people made the safest drivers.
British drivers also tend to feel safer on their own roads in comparison to the roads of Europe. In the study, 92 percent of British drivers said so.
But car insurance premiums, especially for young drivers, continues to escalate in price. The average car insurance premium in 2008 was sitting at £780 a year, after increasing dramatically from 2007’s £630 a year.
Why is this so?
It has to do with the amount of uninsured drivers on our roads in the UK. Approximately one in twenty drivers in the UK don’t have insurance, and most of those are under 29. This costs the UK insurance industry over £500 million a year, which causes about a £25 to £30 increase in insurance premiums every year.
And when it comes to young people, 17 and 18 year olds are more likely to claim, and a third of all insurance claims come from the age group of 18 to 25. Moreso, young people are ten times more likely to be convicted for drink driving, and are six times more likely to be found driving an unroadworthy car.
All of these statistics cause young drivers to be looked at unfavourably by UK insurance companies, and the task of finding young drivers cheap insurance incredibly difficult.
Driving without insurance is not an option for a young driver – it is against the law, can result in a myriad of convictions and costs, and is one of the causes for high insurance prices.
So what can be done?
Well, the first thing is that young drivers should do some shopping around, which not only encourages competition in the industry but can get a young driver cheap car insurance. A comprehensive insurance plan can be attained at about £415 and a third-party fire and theft plan at about £390.
